The cost of flight tickets are never as cheap as you wish.  However, you can find cheap flight tickets if you put forth a little effort, and know when and where to look.  Below are a few tips, which I hope you find useful in your endeavours to soar the skies economically.
Have you ever heard the old saying “It’s all in the timing baby”?  When buying plane tickets, this quote can be worth a bundle.  Knowing when to buy tickets can make a lot of difference to your wallet.
If it is possible, book your trip in advance.  In most cases, the earlier you book with an airline, the greater savings you will receive on tickets.  Waiting till the last minute is risky, as it can go either way.  If you are short on time to arrive at your planned destination, you may be forced to purchase tickets at an outrageous rate, especially if no other specials are available within your time frame.
On the other hand, if you have time to spare, you may benefit by waiting at the airport for standby flights.   Pack your bags and head to the airport.  Go up to the counter and explain that you would like to be notified if anyone cancels or does not show up for their flight.  Be honest in the fact that you are looking for a very cheap flight.  How does this logic work?  Its simple.  Airlines are in for money and profit.  Jet fuel does not come cheap.  It is to their advantage to make certain that each plane is filled to capacity upon take off.  So when someone cancels at last minute, or is a no show, it is better for them to sell the space at a cheaper rate, rather than to make no sale at all.  Some money is better than no money at all.
Another good tip is don’t be afraid to compare, and don’t be shy in telling them you are comparing.  Call all of the airlines and get quotes. Be polite, yet honest.  Tell them that you are searching for cheap flight tickets.  As well, let them know that you need a quote, so that you may compare it to that of their competition.  Most airlines will be eager to tell you about all of their specials, as they don’t want to lose business to competitors.
