Hidden revenue killer no one talks about When we started speaking with customers, they treated failed payments as just "cost of doing business" — like a black box you can't crack open.

It sits in the backend. Hidden on the payment side. "The payment provider will fix it, right?" 🤑

Here's what most don't realize:

Failed payments happen to your GOOD customers
Often, the cards are still valid (banks just decline anyway)
In most cases, customers don't even know their subscription failed

For many AI and SaaS companies, it's still a mystery — but the impact on churn is very real.

Involuntary churn

Involuntary churn= losing subscribers due to payment failures, not active cancellations. Your customers aren't choosing to leave; they don't even know there's a problem.

There's no single root cause. Dozens of reasons exist: insufficient funds, fraud flags, expired cards, AVS issues, SCA requirements, invalid card data... Each failure type needs its own targeted solution.

When a failed payment becomes unrecoverable, you lose more than immediate revenue: you lose significant LTV potential.

The math is compelling: If your average customer stays 6-12 months, increasing recovery rates from 45% to 55% can boost ARR by 6%-10%.

Next week at Money TLV Payments Events, I'll be sharing the #1 initiative every company should prioritize to increase revenue: kill failed payments.
