Overview
Riverside is the all-in-one platform for recording, editing, and publishing studio-quality video and podcasts.

Intro: the Riverside product
Riverside is the all-in-one studio for recording, live streaming, editing, repurposing, and publishing studio-quality video and podcasts. The platform records up to 4K video and uncompressed audio locally on every participant’s device, so quality holds up even on a poor connection. Creators and businesses in 100+ countries use Riverside to produce broadcast-quality content without studios, expensive gear, or technical expertise.
That global, creator-led reach is also what makes billing complex. Riverside runs a product-led, self-serve subscription motion across monthly and annual plans, and most customers pay on personal cards issued all over the world. Every one of those payments has to clear cleanly for revenue to land.
The challenge
Riverside runs a product-led growth motion where retention and expansion depend on a frictionless billing experience. Failed payments introduced avoidable, silent revenue leak:
Involuntary churn: a share of creators were cancelled by a failed charge, not by any decision to leave the product.
Trial-to-paid drop-off: the first charge when a free trial converts to paid is one of the most failure-prone moments of all, and a generic decline there meant a new subscriber was lost before the relationship even started.
Stripe retry logic: default retry settings apply one schedule to every failure and don’t adapt to issuer behavior, which is especially costly across a global base of consumer cards.
Disconnected recovery: retries and customer emails weren’t synchronized, adding confusion and pushing some users to cancel outright.
No self-serve safety net: with no sales team chasing renewals, every recovered payment had to happen automatically.
Across a global creator base, generic declines and issuer variability quietly compounded into lost monthly revenue. Riverside needed recovery that improved fast, ran hands-off, and adapted on its own as failure patterns changed.

How Riverside turned failed payments into revenue
FlyCode is a Stripe-native app that plugged into Riverside’s existing billing in days, with no engineering project required. Under the hood, per-merchant machine learning trained on Visa and Mastercard network data evaluates each failed transaction in real time and decides:
whether to retry,
when to retry,
how to retry trial failed payments,
when to run revenue leak agents for priority customers,
and how to coordinate the retry with customer communication.
As issuer behavior shifts over time, the models adapt automatically, keeping recovery performance high with no manual tuning.
Riverside put the full FlyCode platform to work across all four product lines:
Recover. Adaptive Retries time each attempt to the moment an issuer is most likely to approve, and Adaptive Backup Cards charge a card already on file when the default fails, recovering revenue with no customer action.
Trial Recovery handles the most fragile moment of all, the first charge when a free trial converts to paid, so new subscribers aren’t lost to a generic decline before they ever become customers.
Reach. Recovery emails and SMS fire in sync with the retry schedule, so the right message reaches the right creator at the right moment, with high deliverability and full payment context behind every send.
Agents. FlyCode’s newest layer looks for the revenue that never failed loudly: false declines and misconfigured fraud rules that reject good customers before recovery logic ever sees them.
Everything runs on pay-on-recovery pricing. Riverside only pays on revenue FlyCode actually brings back.
Why this matters for creator platforms
Self-serve, consumer-card businesses feel failed payments differently from enterprise SaaS. There is no account manager to catch a lapsed renewal, the card base is global and personal rather than corporate, and a single generic decline can end an otherwise loyal subscription. Recovery that adapts per issuer, coordinates messaging, and runs entirely hands-off is exactly the safety net a product-led motion needs as it grows.
