How it Works
Read the network signal
Every decline is classified by its Visa category, Mastercard advice code and your processor's advice code, plus 100+ datapoints per transaction.
Decide: retry, wait, fix, or stop
Soft declines go to the ML retry schedule. Timing codes set the earliest next attempt. Data declines trigger account updater or a backup card. Hard declines and cancellations stop.
Count every attempt, everywhere
Attempts from your processor, billing platform and any other tool count against one per-card limit. FlyCode holds the line and flags any source that overshoots.
Report what the acquirer sees
Reattempt rate, violation rate and estimated fee exposure, by network, decline type and retry source, in real time. Exportable for your processor or risk team.

Dunning Compliance vs standard retry logic
| Feature | Dunning Compliance | Standard retry logic |
|---|---|---|
| Hard-decline handling | Blocked on first attempt, record updated | Retried on the fixed schedule |
| Attempt limit | Enforced per card across every retry source | Per tool, so sources add up unseen |
| Visa limit | Current rulebook, 20 in 30 days | Often still 15, or no cap |
| Mastercard timing codes (MAC 24 to 30) | Honoured to the hour | Ignored |
| Cancellation codes (MAC 21, R1) | Billing stopped, subscription updated | Retried |
| Data declines | Account updater or backup card first | Same credential retried |
| Fee exposure reporting | Real time, by network and source | None until the acquirer statement |
| Recovery lift | More revenue with fewer attempts | Baseline only |

How FlyCode helped Carpe with failed payments?
Carpe was founded with one mission: to help those suffering with embarrassing, uncomfortable sweat. They are reimagining everything that antiperspirants and sweat control can be.

Framer, the web builder for stunning sites, enhancing failed payment recovery by 18%+

We are huge fans of the Framer team, as our own website at FlyCode.com runs on it. Learn how the team increased revenue with FlyCode’s suite of ML recovery solutions.
What are the card network retry limits?
Visa allows up to 20 reattempts per card in 30 days for retryable declines and none for hard declines, with a fee on every attempt beyond that. Mastercard charges for any retry after a Do Not Try Again or Stop Recurring advice code, and for more than 10 declines in 24 hours or 35 in 30 days on one card.
My processor already has smart retries. Why do I need this?
Your processor counts its own attempts. It does not see retries from your billing platform, another dunning tool, or your support team, and the network counts all of them. Dunning Compliance holds one limit across every source.
Does blocking hard-decline retries reduce recovery?
No. Hard declines (lost, stolen, closed accounts, fraud blocks, cancelled mandates) do not approve on retry. Blocking them removes fees and frees attempts for insufficient funds and generic declines, which is where recovery happens.
Which rules does FlyCode enforce?
Visa's four decline categories and the 20 in 30 days limit, Mastercard Merchant Advice Codes including the timed retry codes, Mastercard velocity thresholds, and your processor's advice codes. Acquirer-specific thresholds can be added.
How do you keep the rules current?
FlyCode is a Mastercard network partner and a Visa Everything Award winner, and our models are trained on Visa and Mastercard network data. Rule changes, like Visa's May 2025 move from 15 to 20 attempts, are applied centrally.
Will this change my billing setup?
No. FlyCode runs alongside Stripe, Shopify, Chargebee, Recharge, Skio or Stay AI and syncs status back. There is no code and no change to checkout.
What do I get in reporting?
Reattempt rate, violation rate, estimated fee exposure and recovery rate by network, decline type and retry source, plus an exportable attempt history per card.
How does pricing work?
Dunning Compliance is part of Recover. Pricing is outcome-based, so you pay when FlyCode recovers a payment.
